The new technical architecture of Oracle
Applications offers the possibility of consolidating
multiple instances into one. Upgrading saves time and
money - no more maintaining multiple instances. An upgrade
also provides the opportunity to develop uniform policies
and procedures throughout the entire organization.

EZ Path Oracle Applications
Upgrade Methodology
EZ Path provides a proven methodology and tools to minimize
the time and cost of an upgrade to Oracle 11i. EZ Path
helps in streamlining and efficiently manages the Oracle
upgrade, and reduces cycle times and overall upgrade
project costs.
The EZ Path methodology is based on Intelligroup's extensive
experience in performing Oracle upgrades. Whereas typical
upgrade methodologies only provide a project management
framework, the EZ Path methodology delivers the project
management framework and knowledge base that captures
Oracle Applications issues, problems, and resolutions.
Through the knowledge base, you have access to a wealth
of detailed, time-saving information. The knowledge
base can significantly reduce the number of iterative
test runs because you have the detailed intelligence
on the major upgrade problems and their potential impact.
The different phases of this methodology with clearly
defined deliverables and checklists will help the customer
to achieve their upgrade smoothly and efficiently.
Upgrade Options
Every organization has unique requirements and business
objectives for an upgrade. An application upgrade
can be classified under the following categories:
Functional Upgrade:
This upgrade will analyze the new as well as improved
functionalities, eliminate customizations and improve
core business processes. This approach provides moderate
ROI.
Strategic Upgrade:
This category will cover the functional upgrade with
strategic deployment of new dimension modules or enterprise
applications such as CRM/Advanced Supply Chain Management/Self-service
Applications. Any organizational scope expansion such
as rollouts to new business units or new countries
or locations falls under this category. This upgrade
provides maximum ROI.
Technical Upgrade:
This is more suitable for release upgrades or point
upgrades to stay with the latest 11i release from
Oracle and take advantage of some new features and
functionalities.
Pre-upgrade Assessment
As part of our upgrade methodology, a pre-upgrade
assessment is conducted to analyze and understand
the existing application infrastructure and footprint.
Based on this assessment, Intelligroup recommends
a customer oriented upgrade option as well as providing
recommendations for customization migration, archive
and purging of historical data.
Upgrade Assistance Utilities/Tools
Using Oracle Standard Utilities and our own custom
utilities, Intellgroup leverages the lessons learned
and experience from its many years of implementing
and upgrading Oracle Applications. Intelligroup’s
use of these value-added utilities benefit our clients
during upgrades/implementations by providing a faster
implementation that results in reduced costs. The
usage of these utilities is part of our knowledge
transfer process during the upgrades/implementations.
Standard Oracle Utilities
Generic Loader: These
utilities will help to load AOL data, workflow data,
common modules data and some critical setup data to
save time.
Oracle Applications Diagnostics
Support Pack: The setup diagnostic tests assist
in resolving product setup issues. Activity diagnostic
tests assist in resolving problems related to a particular
function or activity. Performance diagnostic tests
assist in resolving performance problems. These tests
validate and report errors and warnings. It also suggests
corrective actions to resolve the issue.
The Upgrade Management system
(TUMS): This utility helps to identify the
steps required to be run during pre and post-upgrade
phases.
Intelligroup Proprietary Tools/Utilities
Customization Assessment Tool (CAT): This utility
is run on source instances before the upgrade to find
most of the custom objects and reports the customizations
by different categories including packages, reports,
forms, workflow, etc. This list acts as a checklist
during migration and assists the implementation team
to prioritize the migration of custom objects.
Deliverables Tracker (DTRK):
This is a project management aid tool which
helps in tracking all the defined project deliverables.
It notifies the project team on deliverable due dates
and allows the deliverables to be tracked by different
phases of the project.
Issue Tracker (ITRK):
This user-friendly utility helps in tracking and maintaining
the issues and resolution that occur during the upgrade
process. Also, the Oracle Support’s TAR number
and patch details can be stored along with the issues.
The resolutions of these issues are captured in the
tracker to act as a knowledge base for the future
upgrade. The ITRK flexible reports help in analyzing
and resolving issues and increase the team's communication
for project synergy.
Test Script Pack (TPAC): This set of standard
test scripts will help in testing the post upgrade
integration and user acceptance testing.
Chart of Accounts Change Tool (COACT): This
utility is a comprehensive and quick solution for
small changes in Chart of Accounts due to business
reasons. It also provides a quick transition to the
new Chart of Accounts structure with minimal business
impact and resource usage. It provides detailed reporting
of changes before and after the change for audit purposes.
